Overzealous police officer arrested for defaming Pres. Lungu

Police in Serenje district in Central Province have apprehended and detained a police officer for defaming President Edgar Lungu.

Central Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase, has confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview and named the officer as Mutakela Manyando of Serenje Police Station.

The Police Commissioner explained that the officer allegedly stated that the “One Zambia One Nation” slogan does not exist and that there is no President,’ which is translated as defamatory to the head of state.

Mr Njase said the officer was apprehended on Sunday May 27, around 12: 30 hours.

He said the suspect has been warned and cautioned and remains in custody awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Mr Njase said once instructions are received from the DPP, the officer will be charged under CAP 87 Section 69 of the Laws of Zambia for defamation of the head of state and will appear in court.

And Police in Kabwe have arrested a 28-year-old man for the murder of his sister over nshima.

Central Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase, has confirmed the arrest in an interview with ZANIS in Kabwe today.

Mr Njase identified the suspect as Gill Bwalya aged 28 of Sausande Village in Mukonchi Chiefdom of Kapiri Mposhi District.

He said the suspect killed his sister identified as Jessy Chaleka aged 26 of the same abode using kicks and fists on Saturday between 10: 00 hours and 11: 00 hours after a quarrel over nshima.

He added that the assailant will soon appear in court while the deceased has been buried.
